High blood pressure has no symptoms — until it does
General medicine18 June 20264 min read

Most people we diagnose with hypertension felt perfectly well. A two-minute check every few months is the cheapest medicine we have.
Hypertension is common in Buea and quiet by nature. People feel normal for years while the pressure damages the heart, kidneys and eyes, and the first sign is often a stroke.
Get checked, even when you feel well
If you are over 30, check your blood pressure at least twice a year. It takes two minutes at our front desk and costs very little.
What helps
Less salt and less bouillon cube, more vegetables, moving your body most days, and cutting down alcohol. These are not small adjustments — they measurably lower readings.
If you are prescribed tablets, take them daily and for life unless a doctor tells you otherwise. Stopping when you feel fine is the most common reason treatment fails.
